Choosing your wedding venue is usually one of the first things you do once you get engaged, after setting the date. However, it’s not an easy task and there are many things to consider so, here’s my advice:
1) Firstly, the most important thing you have to consider is what sort of style you want your venue to have. Note down some important characteristics that are important to you, then you can start on the short list. After that, you can decide on a location, whether that be near or far.
2) Location is key. Of course, you don’t have to get married locally but do take your guests into consideration and how easy it will be for them to get to the venue. For your elderly guests, is it accessible? How close are local hotels and B&B’s? How do you feel about your guests travelling between wedding and reception?
3) Budget your venue! Before you go and visit the venue, you need to take into consideration what your budget is. It’s going to hit you harder when you go to the venue and realise it’s out of your price range! Approach the venue knowing roughly how many guests you want because that will play a huge factor. Venues tend to have seasonal costs, so if you haven’t decided on a date, the prices on dates vary.
4) Ask questions! Try and ask as many questions as you can before leaving the venue or even signing the contract. The more questions you ask the more comfortable you will feel in making that final decision. What’s included in the venue hire? How late can we play music until? Make a list of these questions before you initially call, and don’t be afraid of asking the same question twice!
5) Make sure it’s the one! If you think you’ve already chosen ‘the one,’ make sure you go back again to double check! It’s very easy to get swept up in the moment. Visiting again won’t do any harm, will it? It’s just making sure that the venue is as perfect as you remember. If you don’t feel happy with everything, then don’t sign. Remember it’s your special day. It shouldn’t be anything less than perfect!
